93 Sohc Sl1 Idle Problems

The idle races somtimes when decelerating, or when traveling downhill.

Iv'e seen the posts mentioning cleaning the IAC., however removal of the IAC valve seems a bit move complicated than shown. First off, to remove the throttlebody, one would have to remove quite a bit of vacuum, and associated fuel lines. Am I correct? Is the IAC valve the one on the radiator side of the trottle body- kitty-corner to the trottle return spring?

Secondly, I might try replacing the temp sending unit. Is there a way to remove the electrical connector without damaging the wires. I don't want to ruin the connector attached to the sending unit.

Re: 93 Sohc Sl1 Idle Problems

The throttle body is simple to get off, Disconnect the electrical connectors at the idle air control (IAC) valve and throttle position (TP) sensor. Disconnect the vacuum harness (they are just held in by a clip)Disconnect the throttle control cable. Remove the throttle body retaining bolts. Make sure that you use a new gasket and make sure that you remove all of the old gasket.

To disconnect the electrical conector at the temp sensor all yoy do is press the side of it with 2 fingers and it should just come right off. Those sensors like to crack, there is a new style out the is made out of brass the old 1 cracks because its made out of ceramic.

Re: 93 Sohc Sl1 Idle Problems

just had the same issue on my saturn. replacing the temperature sensor solved that issue but good! You just need to make sure you replace the correct sensor, it will have 2 wires attached to it. the sensor with just 1 wire is the sensor for the temperatur gauge. the sensor will run about $15 or so
