Question 92 Buick LeSabre Radio help!

I have a 92 Buick LeSabre and i bought a new Cd player to replace the old casette player. I have the dash off and the old radio out but im having trouble hooking the new one up. There is alot more cords coming out of the dash than the new radio has. I have to cut wires and hook em together but the colors are not matching i dont know what colors are for what. The manual for the new player says what the colors are for but i dont know what cord coming out of the dash goes to the back right speaker and what goes to back left speaker and what one is positive and negitive. Is there a chart somewhere that tells me what color is for what part?

In addition, you must by an adapter harness for your vehicle. This plugs into your existing radio harness. From there you can match up the wires with your new radio harness. and splice away.

The wire harness you'll need is less than 10 bucks at most Walmart stores that I've been to. With the harness, it's simply a matter of color coding and splicing! Also, don't forget your dash kit to fit the new sized head unit if you haven't already bought one! Here's a link to a thread I made with the wire colors if you need it:

Re: 92 Buick LeSabre Radio help!

Thanks! I bought the adapter and got it installed and working i bought the anenna adapter and the dash kit aswell. The only problem now is the new stero is longer then the short little casette player and the hole in the dash isnt deep enough for it.. so it sticks out a bit and isnt bolted in or anything but im fine with it fornow. Also bought new from speakers for it and it sounds nice!

FYI the foam that is in the dash to keep vibration down is from 92 when they built the car so... its very sticky and oily .... big mess haha

It's obvious your CD player is not compatible with this vehicle. It will probably cause trouble later on (for example, in a wreck it will become a flying projectile and likely hurt someone in the car--ie YOU). If it were me, I'd sell the unit and get one compatible and also get one with an iPod interface built in.

If it is just plastic back there, you can cut/chip some of it out of the way so the deck will go straight back.

Re: 92 Buick LeSabre Radio help!

No aftermarket head unit will fit the same as the stock radio. The kit itself extends the face at least an inch outside of where the original radio face was. This is perfectly normal, and as long as you bend the metal tab fasteners on the head unit to lock into the dash kit, and then bolt the dash kit into the dash, everything will be fine. In my opinion, it's better for the face to stick out a little, as long as the dash kit is installed properly. I don't know about you all, but the factory radio seemed to me like it was sunken in way too far inside the dash. I remember having to tilt forward just to reach the controls. Climate and lighting controls are easily accessable, though
