2004 Auto Acura TL

Hey everybody,

My name is Monte and I am obviously new to the forums. I have been with my cousin a couple of times when he has raced through Memphis.

When I turn 16, I am almost positive that I will be getting my dad's 2004 Acura TL. It is the normal version without the navigation system, automatic transmission, and I believe the rest of it is the way it came from the dealer. It has no more than 30k miles and is in pristine condition.

I was wondering if it would make a good a good racer and if it was worth tuning at all (since it is automatic)?

Thanks,
Meiseman

Ok. Cool, thanks. Even if it is automatic, is it still worth it do do anything to it?

You're 15. Don't even have your license yet.

Get your license, learn to drive. Don't even think about going all Fast and Furious with your Dad's old car. Shit can happen way to fast when you're just starting out driving and think you're the next Michael Schumacher.

The fact that you even mentioned video games means you're not even mature enough to get out there.

Street racing is stupid, even though we've all done it at some point.... keep it to the tracks. It's just better... Period.

beware of their transmissions. 1st and 2nd gear tends to go because the transmission is pretty weak. My moms has a type S and I must say it can scoot. Those cars runs like a high 14 stock. But to me those numbers are pretty slow still. hahah

However, it is not in a TL. And comparing that to an F-body is an absurd comparison....especially a modded one. There power band is nowhere near the same, different gearing, amongst about a million other things.

it seemed like he was just asking whether or not it's worth modding based soley on the fact that it's an auto. he wasn't saying anything about the quality/performance of honda's transmissions or how their gear ratios will fare in a race. also the question came from someone who doesn't even have a license yet,, and generally the 15-year-old crowd shuns automatics in the "street razing" scene. I was merely showing him an example of a well-built automatic.
