Re: Oil Filter

52 I believe is for the 4.3 and the 35 is a different filter for the 5.7. Check the listings where you buy your filter.

Re: Oil Filter

PF52 is for 4x4 trucks/Suv's and the PF35 is for 2 wheel drives.

They are not interchangable.

PS - I have had 2 1992 Chevy 4x4, a ext cab z71 and reg cab for plowing snow, both 4x4's.

Lightbulb Re: Oil Filter

My info disagrees here, the 52 is for the 4.3 v6 and the the 35 is for 8 cylinder engines and will not fit the 4.3 regardless of 4x4 or 2wd, check into this.

Re: Oil Filter

The 35 or newer 1218 does not apply to the 4.3 regardless of 4x4 or 2 wd correct? I think that info in your prior post has elongated this issue. According to your listing the the 52 does crossover to some 8 cylinders though.

Re: Oil Filter

I will have to check the AC Delco catalog on the 35 and the 4.3. I showed you a snipet of all the many applications, thousands.

Fyi - The 52 is on my 93 Lumina right now, it was on my 92 plow truck, my 92 and 96 4x4 E, Cab's. I have a half doz sitting on the shelf.

Sorry if you disagree but beleive me when I say, ALL 4x4 GM TRUCKS from 89 to 99 use the PF52. Th PF47 is a shorter version of the 52. The 25 (short version) and the 35 (long version) are a hold overs from back in the 60's when they first went to spin on. I am well versed on 4x4 GM trucks having owned many back to 1975 (new Blazer).

The 35 is about 1 in diameter larger than the 52. I think I may have a used one around the shop, will take a photo to show size comparisions.

PS - If you clich on the 1992 links it will take you to AC Delco and you can look up any parts for a vehicles or find what they parts fits if you have the number. Thats how I got this info.

The reason the 4x4 use the 52 is clearance. The front drive shaft interfers with the filter in the down position, like with the 2 WD's. So there is an 90° extension on the filter base that angles the filter back away from the engine on a 45° angle. So the filter is just above the drive shaft.

Here is a image of a 96 4x4 Chevy truck 350, see the driveshaft. A by-pass filter has been installed on this truck but you can see the filter comes off the block on it side, not hanging down as it would in a 2 wd that uses the 1218 (35).

Re: Oil Filter

Yes the PF52 is the only one that fits a 4 wheel drive.

The PF35 (which is OBSOLET) will not fit a 4 wheel drive truck. They have different oil filter mounting bases and cannot be interchanged.

Yes the AC Delco is a good brand, so is the Wix and the NAPA Gold which is a Wix made for NAPA.

If you go to a parts store, as them to show you the PF52 and the PF1218, you will see the big difference.

Study this image, 52 on left, 35 on right. Both nearly identical in legth btw.
