Puting on altezza tailights(97 eclipse)

can anyone give me a little overview of how to put on altezza taillights on a 97 eclipse befor i got and take a part my car. i just unwraped them and i was looking in side of them and thier wasnt any bulbs do i just take out the old ones from the stock lights? HELP!!! PLS!

The old bulbs should fit just fine. You have to take apart the 2 little coner pieces of the interior and then the big center plastic piece. There's probably like 6 nuts holding on each light. IIRC, you'll need a 10mm socket (and maybe a 12).

On the other hand, do us all a favor and leave those ugly ass taillights for the hondas. Stock > altezza.

If anything, get the stock center piece painted to match the car, that doesn't make them look soo bad, but I still think they're way overplayed.

What type of paint do i get for the center piece? I was told I could not use the paint for the body of my car cause the center piece was not meta?

Any paint will work, but I'd use automotive paint, the stuff made for your car. Whoever told you that you couldn't is a retard, you don't paint directly to metal with it, it wouldn't stick. You'll need to scuff the light with some fine sandpaper, about 600 grit. Then lay down some adhesion promoter, I'd use Bulldog Adhesion Promoter, it comes in a spray can and works great. Then put down some primer, again, preferrably the same shit you use for your car, and then wetsand it "smooth" with 800-1000 grit, just be sure not to break through the primer very far, otherwise you'll have to re-coat that spot. Next put down a coat of sealer (automotive brands again), and lastly you can finally paint/clear. It's alot of work for such a small piece, but it has to be done if you want it to match the car and last a long time.

You can use the same paint. Just scuff the taillight, primer it, wetsand it and, spray your base and clear coat.

*EDIT* - Damn beat me by 1 minute.
Also I wouldn't recommend sanding the primer with 1000 grit, I use 320, maybe 400 grit tops. If the primer gets to smooth the paint wont stick to the primer well.

Damn that sounds like fun, i've never wet sanded before though. Any type of water for the wet sand?

Yea, I usually get a hose and turn it on really low and let it run over the part I am sanding.

I was in a rush when I wrote that, yes 1000 is too smooth for primer, I meant to say on the sealer, like if you have a slight run or something, hit it with 800-1000 to get rid of the blemish. But 320-400 is way to rough of a final wetsand grit. You're supposed to start with 400 at the roughest, and that's on really high spots, and finish out with between 600-800, otherwise you'll be able to see the sanding marks through the sealer and primer.

Right, yeah i got the sand paper. Just gotta remove those damn letters ECLIPSE. Hopefully i won't dig into the plastic.
