Hello Everyone - New Artist Here

Hello! My name is Kristina Biane, and I'm an Automotive Artist...

lol that sounds like an AA meeting introduction.

Anyways, Lemorris told me to come and play, and here I am.

I've been doing this since 1995 (well I consider that my 'start date' as that's when I was first published in Mini Truckin' and designed my first paint jobs).
Started out 'by hand', was turned onto the Mac by an old friend, started playing around in Illustrator and Photoshop... well yeah, now I do it mostly all 'in the box'. I have a G5 and a 9x12 Wacom. But I still have my box of pens & pencils, markers, chalk & baby powder, boat curves, and ellipses!

I am self-taught. Helps that the ex was in 'the industry' and I was surrounded by custom cars and trucks and networked myself accordingly.

Besides renderings, along the way I've acquired some other skills:
* Die-cast tampo design, Die-cast product design
* Graphic Design (print media)
* Corporate Branding (ie: logo design)
* Packaging Design
* Screenprint Art and Separations
* Technical Apparel Design (ie: motocross gear, jackets, gloves, etc)
* Product Design
* Body Styling Kit Design
* Vehicle graphic and custom paint design
* and I'm just getting into web design and html related projects

What I want to do next: Painting!

My friends also use me as their personal project vehicle consultant from time to time lol... I've built a few custom cars in my time that have gotten quite a bit of magazine ink.

My artistic idols are: Art Fitzpatrick, Camilo Pardo, Kenny Youngblood, Chip Foose, Tom Fritz, Steve Stanford, Greg Tedder, Jeri Clow (one of my biggest mentors for screenprinting!), Lemorris, and my 6 year old daughter.

Okay, onto the art... my site isn't up yet, but here's a link to a gallery:

and some art:

Re: Hello Everyone - New Artist Here

I stared at this one for 6 days

my wife was worried.

I was fed through a straw.

very cool HRK

I happen to know for a fact that HRK has had conversations with Foose and the like at SEMA and other shows she's had works at. She's not a name dropper so I'll drop them for her.

I do have a question or two though X....you were first published 12 years ago. In a pretty reputable magazine no less. Do you still feel like you need to practice or study works by other artists?

What do you have the hardest time rendering?

Do people treat you differently because you're female in a male dominated field?

Do you think that Lemorris is really "Nestle Cocoa" brown or would you say it was more like "inner layer snickers" brown?

Great artwork! I do see some of Jeri C's drawing style in your work.
(Her tutorials had a big effect on changing the way I draw and finish digital CAR-toons.)

And the colors and background designs of those first few images sure does have the "feel" of Tedder-like art.

Can't wait to see more of your work, and glad to see you venture over to the "toony" side of drawing too, luv the Acura image.
That's' the world where I do my most of my drawing.

I had a chance to meet Chip Foose waaay back when I was a nooB (in 1998 I think it was). My ex worked for a company that had ties with Boyd Coddington and Chip was working there at the time, he had a whole 'loft' in the shop, that was his studio. I got a quick education as to how 'they do it at art center'... but damn, it was overwhelming. Not only is Chip a super nice person, he just radiates pure automotive creativitiy.

When I moved back to OC, I also had the chance to meet Steve Stanford, and he's the same way. Super cool, laid back, his artwork makes me cry, and he knows so much about cars (esp. Cadillacs) that it makes your head spin.

Speaking of super cool guys: Right now I am helping Tedder w/ his designs - he sends me his awesome inked lineart and a marker comp, and I color it in:

I am always learning. I am always humble. While you may drool over my art, I see something to improve. Confidence is one thing, but thinking you're the cat's meow and looking down your nose at people who are learning will only get you bad karma and a horrible reputation. I've always tried to help other artists, because there are a lot of artists who have helped me. Pay it forward.

Hmm.... Black cars are hard, but the end result is awesome. But the ones that make me grumble most are the ones w/ lots of bolt-on crap, offroad/4x4 trucks, cars with lots graphics, or old cars with tons of chrome.

Kind of... I guess I'm used to it now. But not in a bad way. Skills of any kind speak for themself. But a bat of the eyelashes and some harmless flirting can smooth things along as well

(and diehard "Car Chicks" like me are kind of rare, and there are men out there who actually swoon at being 'out-knowledged' when it comes to that stuff)(my fiancee brags that I know more about cars than he does)(I just retain tons of useless knowledge lol)

I started out doing 'toony stuff, gotta love CarToons! I wish I had more time to do fun projects like that! The Acura was for a shirt for a local shop. That one is actually all vector art!

See, you're on the right track

There's a lot of car girls out there, just keep trying.

I've taught my sister how to 'speak car' but she's already taken

(and your comment is flattering, btw )
