new car.. but not dsm.. =[

hey everyone, just to start off, i am not getting a dsm.. which really really blows. but after 7 months of trying to convince my financial advisor (father) he is still not happy. the reason he stated he would not allow me to buy my own dsm is because of how old they are. not fair considering both my sisters had eclipse's. but any who.. i can understand where he's coming from, he just has my safety in mind. i.e. the eclipse doesnt have side air bags.. and he really really wants that.. a family death could have been prevented if she had side air bags in her car.. but lets not harp on that.

OK SO.. my next choice of car was the WRX not the sti.. just the wrx.. so i proposed the idea to my dad.. and he was like alright well look into it.. so after looking around.. he finally comes back to me.. with the idea he wants a mustang.. and im like .. 0.o?? wtf? a mustang? that came out of no where.. so we looked at 08 mustangs.. which im gonna say.. are vedy vedy nice.. lol the lease is up on my fathers explorer.. so this new car would be in replace of the explorer. but for me..and i would make the payments.. which i can.. dont worry about that..

so i really dont know where to go with this. should i go with the mustang?? and look into that?? or the wrx?? and follow that up.. (this is a silly question.. and you can call me immature and dumb all you like.. but does it have the stereo typical whistle bov? or can i just get a greddy and do that? .. lol)

also.. the reason im posting in this forum is because ive been looking for a car since about february.. and i fell in love with the dsm.. and i read this forum quite often.. i know you guys know your stuff.. and i can trust your opinions..

thanks so much..

Re: new car.. but not dsm.. =[

a mustang does not have a Blow off valve. It does not have a turbo.
As for getting a mustang well if you like them why not? I mean they aren't for me but It does have a huge aftermarket too and well the possibilites are pretty endless just like dsm's. Of course they drink the gas and reliability is questionable. But dsm's are probably worse. Either way we can't really tell you which car to buy its really in the eye of the beholder. If it were me I would be going for an sti or evo if you want something turbocharged and awd and "newer'.

Re: new car.. but not dsm.. =[

Steviek, I'm pretty sure he was talkin about the BOV and turbo on the WRX, not the Mustang...

The new Mustangs are very nice and I'm sure would be much much more reliable than any turbo car for that matter. The WRX's are very nice cars as well, but you must already know that the non-STi models trannys are not very strong at all. I know many people who have gone through several trannys because of this. I had looked at WRX's too at one time as a daily driver and they would make nice daily drivers that would be reliable. But, for all the money your gonna spend on one, why not just look for an STi model and not even worry about the tranny being a future problem then?

As for DSM's, I can agree with your dad to a point. They are getting older now and they are not the most reliable things in the world. Sometimes I wish I had just gotten a newer Trans Am rather than mess with these cars, but I have learned so much more because of it. Also the fact that I found a new love for a turbocharged motor. lol

The ball is in your court on this one... Go with what will suit your lifestyle best... Personally, I need something much more reliable on a daily basis and the DSM just hasn't met those requirements for over a year now. lol

Re: new car.. but not dsm.. =[

haha yea i was talkin about the bov on the wrx..

and as for the wrx with the weak trannys.. thats one of the things that keeps me from just saying o hey il go with wrx.. cause your right.. im probably gonna drive it hard.. i may look into the sti.. that would be pretty sick..

you gentlemen are right.. this is my choice.. lol so hard tho! i'm going to do a little more research on the mustangs.. i have been reading about the wrx's for a little bit.. so i want to get a good background for both..

if anyone has any other helpp.. just drop it here.. haha

as always
thank you!

Why not get an earlier Evo 8 if you are working on that kinda budget? Or an S2000?

Re: new car.. but not dsm.. =[

Leasing a brand new car is not a good choice IMO. Why not get a used (newer) mustang? Like an '03-'04? That way once the payments are up you actually own the car instead of having to give it back and have nothing to show for all the money you payed. To me, leasing only makes sense if you never plan on owning a car and want to avoid any type of repair or maintenance costs and should not be done by anyone who does not have a solid career and stable income.

Re: new car.. but not dsm.. =[

im sorry if i lead you in the wrong direction.. the car will most likely be bought..but at the end of the lease.. but in 3 years.. if i dont like the car.. or if my parents want a dif one i can give it back.. you can buy a car and keep it at the end of a lease if you want to. im pretty sure you just keep making payments. plesae correct me if im wrong.. also note.. im totally new to this leasing thing.. my parents will only lease there cars because they get tired of them and like variety.. haha but my car will be bought..

o and thor.. i looked at the s2k.. i dunno.. just doesnt really tickle my fancy.. lol and im happy i got my father to finally decide on two cars.. so im not throwing an evo into the mixture.. gotta keep him happy!! lol

If your choices are WRX and 'stang , I would burn both and like previously stated roll with an Evo Lancer. They look cooler , from what I hear less issues than the WRX or an S2000..yeah it's a Honda but the only one worth owning. If you want a car you can drive like a mad man and not kill it , Honda.

Re: new car.. but not dsm.. =[

Leases are the gayist thing since AIDS IMO. I did a little checking, a certain Taurus is $405 a month to lease or $480 to buy. At the end of your 3 year lease period you have sunken almost 15 grand into that car leaving about 10 grand left off the price of the car. Now say if you bought the car and wanted to sell it after 3 years. After 3 years you would have a tick over 17 grand into the car, so you will still owe about 8 grand on the car. Now I would say that a $25,000 car that is 3 year old car with 45k miles (thats the lease limit) would be worth atleast 10-12 grand wouldnt you? Sell it, pay off the rest of the loan, and put the extra 2-4 thousand towards the next car. My friends mom has a leased mustang, shes paying 5 grand a year for a damn lawn ornament because of those milage limits.

Re: new car.. but not dsm.. =[

I would prefer the new Mustang over the Subaru for a DD, even though I just don't understand why they went with a live axel. I think they have bad ass styling, interiors are clean, and even the V6s have decent power. I've seen some done up and they look really cool (never thought I'd be saying this about a Ford, haha). As others above have noted, I'd avoid anything thats boosted as a DD, especially an old boosted car, so reliability-wise, youre better off avoided an old turbo DSM.

Re: new car.. but not dsm.. =[

You worry too much I would have picked the WRX also. It'll be good for many road conditions. What you should do to the car is keep it stock.. except for upgraded reliability parts. Owning two RX-7's, I've realised that you can't have too much reliability Window tints, stereo, intake and exhaust if you really want to if you feel like you HAVE to do something to it.. but I'd stop there. Once you get too into it, you won't be able to afford much else. Congrats on the purchase, might as well post some photos if you can.

Re: new car.. but not dsm.. =[

i concur.. i wouldnt go much farther then intake and exhaust.. once u get into engine upgrades.. its more then just the part you wanted to upgrade in the first place.. lol
