Cool E85 mods- what will i need?

i have the option of running E85 in my windstar, i know the computer can compensate for the physical differences between gas and ethanol, but what would i need to change (as far as materials and equipment) so i dont have to fight with it later?runaround

BTW. the warranty is up, so i wont be voiding anything.

Hello

What year is your Windstar? Have you searched the internet for this issue? I've found sites that explaine what E85 will destroy.

Regards

Dan

Cool Re: E85 mods- what will i need?

it is a 2003 SE and all i can find is that stupid government list that only posts the ready made FFV's. i know ethanol eats older types of synthetics, but i dont know if the newer models used updated materials in the fuelling system. i dont know what sensors i would need to replace, either

Re: E85 mods- what will i need?

I went into the technical discussions forum from the Automotive Forums main page and did a search on "Flex Fuel" (E85 and E 85 got nothing).
Here are a couple of discussions that came up.

Re: E85 mods- what will i need?

To run E85 you will need an E85 conversion kit. I bought mine at www.change2E85.com. It was easy to install and works great. You don't have to change anything as far as gaskets, fuel pumps, etc unless your car was made before 1985.

Cool Re: E85 mods- what will i need?

i have actually been running e85 all summer, my first post being in july, and it now being october. it performed well unless the temperature dropped, then i would have to reset the computer because of a lean mix flag. i am considering putting in a block heater, and heater core in the intake shortly after the filter and trying to carry it over into the colder months. the only thing i dont like, is the fact that even at 2.20/gal, the low mpg still brings my bill up to roughly the same cost per mile travelled as regular gas.
