'01 PATS key in steering column
So I only have one transponder key for my '01 Windstar and I'm not interested in paying $150+ for a second key. I got two (non-transponder) keys made that will open the doors and turn the ignition, but (obviously) not start the car. Trying something I've heard in the past, I unscrewed the bottom shroud under the ignition switch and was able to slip the PATS key into one spot where the engine would start with the non-PATS key, but it would be impossible to close the shroud with the PATS key in that spot. I could not get it to start in any other spot.
So here are my questions: 1) Is there a particular spot I should try? 2) Can I wrap some wire around the key and then connect the wire directly to the sensor? 3) Is this all a bad idea? Thanks for your help, -yitzg |

Re: '01 PATS key in steering column
Hey.. What I did i bought a blank transponder key off ebay.. I think.. 14 bucks shipping.. Now here is the not so hard part.. Some locksmiths have the computer to activate them... I only had one key so they had to activate them. If you have 2 OEM keys you can do it yourself.. But sounds like you had the same deal I had. Only one key.. So call around to local lock smiths some may have it.. Cost me 30.00 bucks.. Dealer wanted 90.00
