Front axles seals on '86 Cherokee
I recently put new front u-joints in my '86 Jeep with commandtrac, now the right front axle seal is leaking. Is it possible to DIY it, and if not what kind of specialty auto repair shop would I need. The general repair shop and the transmission shop in my area don't have the tool to replace it and don't know who would.
One mentioned a custom 4X4 monster truck builder Sure don't have any of them.Any suggestions would be appreciated

Re: Front axles seals on '86 Cherokee
Thank you Dave. We are of a single mind. I checked my old Chilton book and to me it looked like they could be changed the way your link shows. Unfortunately it doesn't go into changing seals, it only shows the blow-up of the axle parts.
According to shop and the tranny place I went to it's done a different way using tools specific to that axle type. Seems now by biggest problem is getting the right size seal, and finding Jeep gaskets. Rockauto.com lists a few size seals for that axle, or that year. Thanks again, Sunny D

Re: Front axles seals on '86 Cherokee
if you have the vacuum disconnect axles the right side seal is in the vacuum housing chamber. but if you do not have a disconnect axle it will be labor intensive!
