Turn the key, then nothing.

Bought my 2002 Sebring convertible yesterday. Today it won't start.

No response when the key is in "start" or "run" positions. The lights and a/c fan work, and the the diagnostics that show up in the odometer window check out ok (except one says "no DTC"). Those diagnostic codes don't produce the same ones that I-Hack reviews, so I am not really sure what they mean.
I suspect some kind of lockout or immobilizer, like an anti-theft thing.
The indicator lights on the dash don't light when the key is turned, but they do light up during the diagnostic routine.

Any ideas?

I understand you're getting power, but if you can get to the battery, unplug it for a few minutes (this will reset the C) and then plug it back on making sure that everything is properly connected & tighten and try starting it then. Also check all fuses, esp. the ENGINE related ones and replaced those as needed. However, with this car being a 2002 w/mileage @ or around 55k miles, it's too early to be experiencing these problems, so you may ultimately may need to take it back to the dealership. Esp. if by chance you got some warranty on it.

Thanks for the reply. I have removed and checked the battery, it is fine(and new). I replaced the 10 amp and 40 amp ignition fuses and the starter relay. In addition to the above mentioned problems, I have also noticed that the key fobs will unlock and lock the doors, but that neither of the gray keys will lock or unlock the doors, but they do work in the trunk. Also I am not able to get the codes using the key dance method and when I try to do them with the trip /reset button, it does not come up with codes, and it does not go through 111111-999999, it is more like just checking the gages and warning lights. It is depressing to see my less than 24 hour old car with the hood up.

That doesn't work on the 98-00 sebrings, don't know about the 02's...Damn DCX engineering!

make sure that it is all the way in park. It has a saftey sensor.

i had same problem with my 2001 and i check wiring diagrams and found that wire from fuse #8 underneath the switch was blowed ,so i bridged from the wire that came from fuse #1 .

Well, my wife's 2002 Sebring convertible had the same problem. Battery was good, power to lights and ignition was good, but the starter did not energized. The Haynes book wiring schematics was completely wrong. I did not ever know where the starter relay was located or even if there was one.

So my wife used justanswer.com and they sent back, via email, the correct starter wiring schematics, illustration of the fuse/relay box in the engine compartment which showed the start relay location, and also made several suggestions all for $9. Holycow, was that helpful.

I pulled the stater relay and ran a wire from the #10 position on the starter relay terminal to the positive side of the battery and the starter turned to enginer over perfectly. No problems with the starter or soleniod.

So I checked for power at #11 position and there was no power. The schematic showed fuse #8 was next in line. Guess what, fuse #8 was blown. Problem solved. It helps to have good manuals to troubleshoot these kinds of problems. Haynes is useless sometimes.

Just thought this could help someone else.
