Night view mirror broke

99/3.5GX/96K

The other day, I got into the car and my night view rear view mirror was broke. I think someone else on here has had the same thing happen. When I put the mirror in night view, it does some screwy 2 or 3 angle thing now.

I don't think I'm gonna replace the mirror. Just thought I'd let y'all know. It kinda sucks since I always used the night mode, except on the highway and what not.

Re: Night view mirror broke

Get tinted windows, problem solved

Im just curious, is this a power mirror? I dont have one, I just have the old school flipper thing, but I never use it anyway because of my tint. One from the wrecker shouldnt too hard too find, that would be your best bet.

Re: Night view mirror broke

Thanks hoov, I may consider the tint sometime. I'm not sure I could replace the mirror myself, it is the flipper kind, but there's a few little lamps on it so it's hooked up to something.

Re: Night view mirror broke

Well Im not sure how you would get the old one off, I know it can be done, because they do fall off occasionally, but getting one to come off at will might be tricky.

They also sell an adhesive meant for putting mirrors back on, so that wouldnt be a problem.

As for the lamps, the wiring should be fairly accessible, the wires poke out from under the headliner and run down into the body of the mirror, so you could probably just cut/splice solder or crimp them. The wiring wouldnt be that complex I would think.

Getting some relatively dark tint is still my favorite option but seriously, I wasnt even horribly blinded by the PO-lice a foot away from my bumper with every light he had shining through my back window, so the average driver at a reasonable following distance doesnt bother me a bit. I also dont have the glare nearly as bad from my side mirrors since my front windows are tinted as well.

Of course a good tint job on all 5 windows and the front strip ran me close to 200 bucks, a near rearview mirror and accessories might run you 50 or so at most.

Here's a link to how to install a rear view mirror. You may find something that will help with "uninstalling" one.
