Thumbs up 90 Blazer S10 gauges disappear when headlights on

This is kind of a strange problem. The gauges are fine when the headlights are off, but when I turn on parking lights or headlights the gauges become so dim that I can barely see them at night, and can't see them at all in the day time. Of course I tried adjusting the dimmer, but it had no effect. I replaced the headlight switch because I had one handy, no joy. Speaking of which, does anybody happen to know where I could get one of those plastic dashboard pieces that the headlight switch mounts inside of?

Digital dash? try rotating the dimmer switch with the headlights on to turn them up again

I did try that, as I mentioned in my post. Any other ideas?
