Unhappy 2000 GT won't start.. Help!

I just bought my new 2000 eclipse GT a couple days ago and having problems already. I started it up and drove from my garage up to my house to grab something and when i got out and started walking away the car died and won't start up again. It turns over just fine but won't fire. I checked the plugs and they are sparking so I'm guessing the problem is getting the gas in. I'm wondering if it could be the fuel pump... But wanted to see if anyone has an idea of things i should check before towin it in to get the tank dropped. Oh and i blew my timing belt on my old civic which had me worried so i checked that right away on this car and its fine. Any ideas? I've read other posts and it seemed you guys were pretty good with this stuff so i hope you can help me! thanks..

Re: 2000 GT won't start.. Help!

Just a little update... I had noticed earlier a sound coming from the engine after i tried to start it... well it kept getting worse and was able to locate it, disconnect it then figure out what the heck it was... looking at the service manual i guess it is the Idle Air Control Motor... Would this be causing my problem of not starting at all? I'm starting to think its not the fuel pump because i can smell gas after cranking for awhile. So i have no clue at the moment but any ideas would be appreciated!

Re: 2000 GT won't start.. Help!

spray some starting fluid in the intake so you will know if gas is the problem
if car run for a second you got fuel problem if you still having trouble
check timing belt check condition of pllugs and wires also if you are having spark just make sure and dont look weak buy a spark tester.

Re: 2000 GT won't start.. Help!

Thanks for responding. I actually got frustrated and brought it into my mechanic.. I'm pretty sure my IAC was fried and if it wasn't broken before I took it out it is now... So before we figure anything else out i have to get a new one. I checked around with some salvage yards and they are having a hard time getting a working one in and I am not real excited about paying $315 for a new one which is the lowest I could find on the net. So i might just have to wait it out for awhile and see what they come up with unless anyone knows where I can get one cheaper! But thanks for the advice and will try those things....
