could use some advise

i have a problem with my sonoma extended cab and i cant figure out whats wrong with it.ive been told it was the brakes. when your driving it makes a loud squealing/squicking noise and then when you apply the brakes to slow down or come to a stop it quits making the noise.i was told my brakes needed to be realigned but i wasnt for sure. any helpful advise is gracially appreciated
