Check engine light kills acceleration.96 blazer

Hi i wasnt there to actually see it. I was at school, anyway my dad had things loaded up to go to the dumb supposidly as he was pulling up he saw the check engine light come on (It was on 1 month ago...we think it was a kinked hose) so the light comes on and ever since its been on, the acceleration is HORRIBLE it has almost no power. Floored it seems like it doesnt give the kick or anything, it accelerates, it just has no power. If anyone has any ideas they would be greatly appreciated. Yes we check the hose gas cap etc. Thanks!

Take it to Autozone, have them plug it into a scanner they have for free and get the trouble code. Post the code if you need more help.

First of all, I am going to be hard on your because you need to learn this.

If the check engine light is on, DON'T JUST KEEP ON DRIVING IT FOR A MONTH, GET IT CHECKED OUT!!!!

Go to autozone, get the codes read and come back here and tell us the EXACT code that was shown.

Get the codes read form Autozone.

Chances are the kinked hose had nothing to do with it unless you got the codes read the first time.

The CEL light is there for a reason and is to aid in fixing a problem.

I know it isnt the hose this time im going to get the code asap its just weird it just randomly died in power. Maybe its the computer overheating and controlling the trans wrong, it only gets crappy slow when its hot.

Is it not shifting and you have to floor it to get going? I had the same problem with my '97. I checked the codes with a scan tool, wrote them down, cleared the codes, and it was back to shifting like normal.... for a couple of miles until it happened again. 'Check engine' and no power. Long story short, it was the ignition switch. I forget the exact codes but they had something to do with the A and B transmission solenoids.
What I'm saying is don't panic if you pull a half dozen tranny codes. Could be the switch.

Hmmm, why does something here remind me of the fellow that called the shop who was having his truck towed in and claimed he needed a tranny. And then when it arrived, to find, that he drove it until the battery was dead and only needed an alternator.

Re: Check engine light kills acceleration.96 blazer

This will be a simple fix once he gives us the actual codes that the truck stored.

We need them or we can do nothing.

there is a 100 things that can be causing his problem.
