I have a '96 Ford Windstar van, it has 141,800 miles and it is a 3.8l. We just spent $1200.00 having 6 gaskets replaced, new belts. A silenoid was locked up in trans., so that required additional work. We got it back and it is still doing the same thing. It drives great, but when you stop the trans. bumps a little, and then it surges like it doesn't want to stop. It is only when you stop the vehicle and everytime you stop. PLEASE HELP. Any ideas?

Welcome to AF's! It sounds like your torque converter lockup isn't unlocking. Have you tried driving it without the OD engaged? Press the button on the end of the shift levor and the OD light will come on meaning the OD is off. If the problem goes away the converter isn't unlocking. Regards Dan

Re: 1996 Windstar
Does the RPM go up? I had a car that would kick the RPM up at a stop, and make that feeling.
