Question H22 Swap, H23 ECU, are there ANY problems???????

Whats up guys, this is my 1st post. I'm having a JDM H22 put in my H23 Prelude. I'm keeping the h23 tranny with hopes of a turbo or supercharger later, but I don't have the money to get the p13 Ecu for the H22, will the p14 ecu for the H23 still run my motor. I kno i'm not going to have Vtec, and its gonna be slower, but are there any main problems with this combination? Does anybody out there have the same setup as me with any advice....please HELP!!!! OBD 1, p14 ECU, H23 Tranny, and JDM H22 motor

Yes it will work, however you will not be able to use the VTEC until you get the right ECU, you will also have to do some modifications to the distrubutor.. I can't tell you exactly what, but may have an answer within the next day or so as my partner just did that same swap and we are trying to get it running right.. He had the H23 Distributor on the H22 and it worked fine, but when he went to put on the H22 distibutor it did not work... ECU? Or some rewiring of the distributor? Basically Internal to External coil issues. Don't know yet but will post as soon as we find out.

Peace

You can use the h23 ecu&activate the vtech system with a rpm activated switch like the one msd sells.

Sounds easy and generally would work, but the two Engines are spec'd differently and should be ran with their respective ECU.

Cool H23 Block H22 Vtech Head

Hey man u made a mistake by doing the whole engine swap. What u should of done is kept the h23 block(more tourqe then H22) and put on the h22 vtech head. fo a total of 3000 dollars u would of head a fully rebuilt head Port and polish, new camshafts etc. After u would of done that u would like have 300 horsepower.
My brother is gona do a project next summer that way like a 93-96 prelude with h23 block and h22 fully rebuilt head.
But about the computer i think there is places where they reprogram them to where the vtech will turn on. check with some import shops or maybe a honda dealers shop.

vtech? You made a mistake by calling it vtech! It's VTEC. If your gonna give advice have a clue as to what advice you are giving.

As long as your using the H22 ECU (P13) (wired correctly) your VTEC will engage without the assistance of other computer hardware.

And the swap, I recommend a full H22 over a "Frankenstien" H22 head on an H23 block anyday.

Here are a couple places that you should check for ECU reprgramming and upgrade.

wagsaccordsir why u gota be and asshole. first of all he doesnt have a h22 ecu hes got the h23 ecu. and the reason i said use the h23 block is cause i know guys that did the h23 and h22 and that thing had more power more tourqe then h22 full swap. so thats my advice he doesnt have to do that. and plus it would have been cheaper for 3500 he would have h22 vtec head fully rebuilt.

Asshole? I guess your perception is your reality and if thats what you wish to percive then by all means; I'm an asshole!

If would have read my post a little more clearly I never stated that he had actually had an H22 ECU, I know he has the H23 ECU. What I said was; "As long as your using the H22 ECU (P13) (wired correctly) your VTEC will engage without the assistance of other computer hardware."

"And the swap, I recommend a full H22 over a "Frankenstien" H22 head on an H23 block" You see the keyword in there? RECOMMEND! Don't get it misconstrued. Just like you offered your advice, I offered mine.

My bitter feeling, is that too many people are overwhelmed with doing the "swap" these days, and don't acknowledge the absolute cost in such. It isn't about putting this or that engine in your car to be cool, its about whatever your going to do, atleast do it right the first time and avoid half-assing such an investment. How can one afford the swap, but can't annie up the extra 100 bucks for the right ECU?

Your built up "Frankenstien" theory? All I can say is; "To each his own".

Peace

Well hey man im sticking with the h23 and h22 head. no one has to do what i say (right). so all i said is that it would have been better but all u guys think that the full h22 gets u more power. i dont care if u all think that the h23 h22 are not good together i like it so its my problem.

Hey guys...thanx for all ur help and all, but if the ECU was ONLY $100 i'd have it...if you can get 1 for that cheap...let me know and i'll hop on that...as far as the "frankenstein" stuff, I spun a rod, and something about a piston. the h23 had 100K+ miles on it, and there was a leak in the block, and i didn't want to rebuild that POS. My car is running fine, and everything is hooked up for vtec, i just have to plug in a P13 ECU and i'll be good to go. I plan on going turbo real soon, and thats why i'm not gonna shell out 3bills for an ECU right now. BTW, does anyone know of a short shift for 4th gen LUdes other than the stupid ass adapter...ACTUAL short shifter? My car has more torque than it did b4, until it hits 5k RPMs...then it gets depressing bekuz its not like that when theres VTEC....I can't wait!!

Sorry!

Here are some Buy it now's.
http://mpf-search.ebay.com/search/s...96&BasicSearch=

My friend... That's a whole nother story!! LOL

His problem is because he's using the wrong ECU and he thinks both will work, the wiring is different between the two ECUs. I have given up trying to help as it is useless, one day he get it I'm sure...

I have the schematics and he thinks they are wrong because he has a JDM engine and ECU. Yea the colors are different but the pin-outs remain the same, some people just don't understand I guess.

Atleast my shit is wired right!! LOL

Peace
