91 Lumina wont start

Okay, first post so I'll start off by saying I'm a car illiterate...

Never had a problem with this car before. Out of town, the engine sputtered when I started it a bit. Then we drove half an hour on the freeway and once we got off the freeway and stopped at a stop sign, the engine sputtered and quit.

We had to have it towed late at night. So my husband went and checked the fluids about 5 minutes ago and found there was NO oil whatsoever and very little coolant. When we bought the car, the guy told us that all the monitors worked fine. My oil monitor still says half full but there's none in there. Pretty sure that would effect the engine...

Is there anything else I should be looking for, it doesn't even start...

Ok, put oil in it and still nothing. It sounds like it might start, but then goes back to squeeling and not starting. Any clues?

Re: 91 Lumina wont start

OK first thing your car has a sensor for the oil if there isn't enough in it it wont let you start it OR run it. Now you said you put oil in it and it tried then started squeeling and wont start. GUARANTEED YOU HAVE A MAJOR PROBLEM Fill your coolant and oil and make sure there full; now it wont run so you cant run the motor to get all the air out of the coolant. BUT if you fill the radiator and crank the motor with the cap for the radiator OFF and it blows water or coolant every were while cranking you are pushing compression into the coolant so I'd say a blown head gasket. The squeeling could be the water pump from lack of coolant, or the pistons in the block from no oil, or it could be bearings from no oil in the pan. YOU REALLY need to have this looked at by a good mechanic. Now does it blow LOTS of white smoke when you were driving it if so BAD HEAD OR HEAD GASKET. The oil system is a closed system so if there was like none you burned it up or it leaked out look for major oil leakage somwere on the motor top and bottom. This is were you start, give me a heads up when you get these things done.
