Car quits while driving

I have a 1998 Honda CRV and everything has been fine for a while. For the past two days, while I am actually driving up the road the car will stop running. The gauge lights and radio stay on, the window will still roll up and down but the car itself just quits. After trying to start it and it just keeps trying to turn it will finally start and go like nothing ever happened. Could this be spark plugs? If someone could help I would appreciate it.

Re: Car quits while driving

I had a tune up about 6 months ago. We replaced the fuel pump over the weekend and it still didnt help. (we did this off the advice of 3 mechanics that could not get to it this weekend). So now I have it at a shop getting diagnostic testing done. This really sucks

Re: Car quits while driving

my son has a 95 accord that just started doing the same thing. I've been reading honda tec notes and just got off the phone with the mech and it all seems to point to the distributor. Honda has had a known issue with it's distributors during the 1990's. You can pick up a new one on Ebay for $150. Seems like a good place to start. How much was your fuel pump?

Re: Car quits while driving

I paid right at $129 for the fuel pump at Advanced Auto Parts. I actually just got done with repairs to the car. It was the distributor, spark plugs and a slow start battery. I guess things could be worse but for all that money Im considering buying a new one.

Re: Car quits while driving

don't feel bad . I just dropped $850 for a new distributor, fuel filter, wires, plugs, dist cap, valve cover gasket and seals and fuel injection service. I said if the bill was going to come to more than $1000 I was going to trade it. But I guess the way to look at is that that amount could be spent on three car payments.

Re: Car quits while driving

before you ever go to mess with your fuel pump insert your key into the ignition lock, turn it one click with your radio off and listen for the fuel pump, it kinda sounds like a low hum for about 3 seconds...
