1992 2.2 Cavalier only fires on 1&4 cylinders

Started in ony day and it would barely run. Checked for spark and only had fire in 2 and 3. Noticed plug wires being bad almost broken so replaced and still nothing. 1&4 cylinders run off same coil pack so I figured that would be the problem. Just put on a new coil pack and it still isn't firing on those cylinders. Has anyone had a similiar problem or know what the problem could be. I thought if it was the ignition module or crankshaft position sensor then no cylinders would fire?

Did you pull the spark plugs out? They could be bad also. Cover all your simple bases.

I guess I didn't technically check them but the plug wire should shock me if the motors running or spark against the frame

Well it's either the ignition module or something really goofy then.

I wouldn't bet on that... coil pack is more likely... but I wouldn't rule out the ignition module.... spark plug insulators could possibly be cracked... have you physically inspected the plugs? Don't assume a brand-new coil pack cannot be bad, either... Just my .02 worth....
