Red face 1995 Neon Engine Noises

My wee little car has a tick tick tick in the engine (my dad bought this at an estate sale for me). It gets louder when you speed up, you can feel the tick in your clutch peddle but then the sound gets softer when you let off the gas. It started making the sound in the city, so I took it too a shop there, they told me that the engine blew. I took it too a mech outside of town (yes, I drove it and am still driving it) and he said it's the lifters or maybe the camshaft. Anyone else have an idea? I want to know if it's going to be worth fixing it or running to an autowrecker and buying another engine.

PS: Anyone know of any molding glue? Mine is starting to fall off.

Re: 1995 Neon Engine Noises

valve lash? piston slap? detonation? pinging? could be any of em. check the condition of your plugs..oil..etc etc,

any water in your oil..oil in your water.. all the small things, try figure out whats wrong. if its driveable..drive it till it breaks? lol..and then get a new engine! :]

my neon engine actually is working the best out of all the (lots and lots) of cars i have.. i had a 85 camaro, 88 firebird, 97SS, 97Z28 (sisters), 280Zx, dodge pickup.. etc etc.. and out of all of em, the neon's engine is in the best shape. i guess i got lucky? however, all the electronics on my car is f*ed up.
