stereo in 96 sts

im looking to upgrade my radio in my 96 sts. i figure ill go with nice aftermarket pioneer or something. should i trust best buy or circuit city to do the install or should i do it myself? will an aftermarket radio give me a problem with the electrical components and computer in this car? any suggestions?

Re: stereo in 96 sts

nobody replied but i did some research....the radio in the 96 sts is very involved with the computer and the info system. this is info i got from crutchfield....they said they do not sell an installation kit or advise replacing this radio. its definately not a do it yourself job. if its to be done i was advised to go to a "local radio shop" not a circuit city or best buy or the like. go somewhere where there is a professional installer, someone whos installed in a cadillac before...not just in a honda. (unlike the guy at circuit city that told me they didnt make an sts caddy in 96 "because his computer book said so".....RED FLAG!) anyways ive opted to just install my sirius radio in my caddy and found i really dont have a use for a cd player anyways...if i decide later i can add a cd changer in the trunk. and the money i saved on a new reciever i can spend on a gps!

Re: stereo in 96 sts

There is hope ...... after deciding what after market unit that you want there is an adapter that can be added (for the actuall tuner and peramp in the trunk)that only cost me about $35. Any shop worth thier reputation can install this and a dash kit for about $135 plus the cost of your head unit to integrate into the bose amp/speaker system. If you want any information past this let me know. I have done a couple of these myself, and you are right this is an involved process if you have not done it before.

Re: stereo in 96 sts

http://www.peripheralelectronics.com...=770&strSearch= this is an adapter for up to 8 channels to modiffy the after market signal, so the amplifier units can accept input from the high output levels of todays head units. http://scosche.com/scosche_caraudio....29&ItemID=SLC4 this is scousche's line converter that you can use, but it will not accept as much power. These mixed with a GM factory harness should get the job done......the only thing left is to find an installer that will do all of this for you!
Tons of mods for cadys just ask .....engine, tranny, wheels, replacement shock conversion kits, custom intakes. All modifications installed on my personal cars and proven for over 1000 miles before recomendation.ENJOY.
