Mines a 95, but all years that have a 4.3 will be about the same, I'm just lookin for how heavy a tow people have found to be comfortable with thrir own . I tow a pop-up camper that weighs about 2000 and It tows very easy, but when temps approach 100 F it is a real challenge to no overheat in stop n go traffic. I want to buy a boat that will be about 3200 lbs.

Re: How big a Boat do you tow with your Blazer?

I don't tow any boat. All my money goes into fixing the truck.

Just kidding. You should be able to pull a 3200 pound boat without any problems. I think most blazers are rated for 5000 pounds max. If you don't have a trans cooler, I'd recommend putting on one on before going too far. The most I've ever towed was a four place snowmobile trailer with 4 sleds on it. It was definitely working to move it. But, it was below freezing, so overheating wasn't an issue.

I tow a 3800lb. FishNSki boat with my '98 ZR-2. Pulls it well enough and stops it a TON better than my '98 S-10 pickup that I used to pull it with. I think the ZR-2 package has upgraded brakes and suspension.

Re: How big a Boat do you tow with your Blazer?

I towed my integra (2500 lbs) with a 2100 lb uhaul auto-transport trailer with my 98 ZR-2 blazer over 600 miles. I had no problems whatsoever. Braking was a piece of cake thanks to the trailer brakes.

I figure between the weight of the trailer, and car plus tools and odds and ends I had in the car I was pretty damn close to the 5000 lb tow capacity.

The only time I had any trouble was when trying to back uphill into my gravel driveway. My tires just spun up the gravel. I wound up dropping it into 4-lo and backed her right up and in.

I pull a 21' lund fishing boat, weights approx. 3000lbs. Pulls fine but man sucks the gas. If its windy I would say for get it cause it would throw ya all over the road.

Re: How big a Boat do you tow with your Blazer?

I towed a 20' Fiberglass Cuddy Cabin boat w/ a 4cyl chevy in it with no issues(98 blazer w/ 4.3). The trans cooler is a great idea, and give the usual precautions about how well your brakes are working. Like everyone's said a 2000lb boat is far from what these will do. I rebuilt my tranny at 152k and asked then if I should upgrade to heavier clutches, etc in the tranny, the tech said just be religious about changing the trans fluid and there will be no issues.

Re: How big a Boat do you tow with your Blazer?

I tow a 21 ft VIP cuddy cabin. The dry weight of the boat is around 2900, plus trailer, plus cooler of choice beverage, all equipment and so forth I figure I have to be approaching 4200 + pounds. I just take my time accelerating and stopping and everything has been fine. About 12 mpg at 72 mph. I have taken the boat to the ozarks (6 + hours) and have had no problems. Thinking about getting a bigger truck (so I can hopefully pull a bigger boat :-) but with gas prices???? What are your guys' suggestion for a work horse vehicle, but still good gas economy during normal day travel?
