Transmission or Sensors?
Recently I had the catalytic converter replaced on my 2002 Monte SS at 48,000 miles. I have made note of this on several threads letting everyone know the symptoms and about the warranty. I am perplexed by the latest issue with my beloved Monte. I was on the road this weekend and noticed that the tranny kept shiffting at the wrong time when accelerating to highway speeds. I would watch the tach roll through first, second, and when it hit third, 60 mph and climbing, it immediately shifted to 4th (overdrive) dropping the rpms from 3200 to below 2000 and my forward speed decreased rapidly. I had to put the throttle to the floor to get a response and when I did it shifted in to second and the rpms jumped to 4000! But man did it take off! The thing is that it should have stayed in third longer or at least gone back to third to contiue accelerating. So my question is, is this a tranny issue (i.e. solenoid) or a sensor issue, like the Throttle position sensor? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Re: Transmission or Sensors?
Only a full scan with a trans function scanner will allow you to see shift solenoid operation as well as gear ratio and slippage error issues/codes. You can also loook at tps functions at the same time.

Re: Transmission or Sensors?
It was the 2-3 shift solenoid. The repair cost was $900.00, but I had an extended warranty. The job requires pulling the suspension carriage and four wheel re-alignment when it is complete. It is a 7 hour job. There is no ryhme or reason to solenoid failure. It also does not predict the health of the other solenoids. I am going to sell this car......
