1995 Lumina not dispensing winshield fluid...

My car is a 1995 Chevy Lumina that won't dispense windshield washing fluid. When I turn on the switch the blades move but no fluid is dispensed. There doesn't seem to be a leak because the tank is full. I was wondering what other possibilities there could be for this problem. Thanks in advanced.

Do you ear the pump while pushing the button? If not, check fuse and wiring. If yes, either your pump is defective, clogged or the rubber hose is disconnected between the pump and nozzle.

No, I do not hear anything. I'm not very experienced with cars so how do I check to see if the fuse is burnt out. I know where and how to get into the fuse box but do not know how to check if it's burnt out.

Re: 1995 Lumina not dispensing winshield fluid...

The owner's manual diagram will show you what fuses run what items inthe car [radio, dashboard lights, antenna, etc.], and will also list the voltage/amperage of the fuse. The fuses are different colors also, and are also individually marked in white with the amperage/voltage. Your fuse box may also have a tiny little "puller" that looks like teensy pliers or ice tongs, to pull the fuses out of their spots with. It may even contain some extra fuses. You can tell if the fuse is bad by pulling it and looking at the part on the end or inside of it where the flat metal parts come together. if they are split/not touching, the fuse is blown. Putting a new fuse OF THE PROPER AMPERAGE/VOLTAGE back in should correct the problem. MAKE SURE you look up the proper amp/volt and verify it. The wrong one can cause a LOT of problems. If your owner's manual is NOT in your car, you've got a few options. One is that you can find a basic guide to your car at most AUTO PARTS STORES, like Auto Zone, Pep Boys, etc. You could also check the automotive publications at your local library.

Re: 1995 Lumina not dispensing winshield fluid...

The nozzles are just clipped onto the wiper arms...pull one off and take the hose off of it and try it. Clogged nozzles are real common. You can usually get them clear by just blowing backwards through them or soak in some vinegar.

If you have no flow with the nozzles detached, then investigate the pump as described above...sometimes the pump doesn't make much noise with a blockage and you won't hear it unless you have the hood open and are listening in the right area...

I had to replace my pump.....GM wanted around $60 for it. I went to NAPA and it was $16, and is extremely quiet - I figured it'd be good advice in case your pump is indeed bad.

Re: 1995 Lumina not dispensing winshield fluid...

Looking in the manual I cannot figure out which fuse it would be because none of them say Winshield Washing Fluid. Could you give me any clue to what it would say for the name of the fuse?
