Using Regular Gas?
Anyone use regular unleaded gas instead of super-premium (93 octane) in thier 04 WRX? The manual says to use 92 octane, but the more I read about octane levels and learn about the fuel itself, I am more convinced it is just a waste of money.
Many peeps on the 'net claim that buying premium, even if your manual says to, is a waste of money. I've heard that modern engines can take any octane without knocking, and they use a number of techniues, mainly knock suppressors, to allow the use of low octane fuel in high-compression engines. Does anyone use regular (89 octane) fuel in thier WRX? What can you say about it? Does using premium really prolong engine life, or is that just a lie made up by big oil? I haven't tried it yet, I know it won't kill my car (the manual even says you can use regular if you absolutley have to), but I am wondering if there are any adverse effects I may need to know beforehand, like if I need to keep it above a certain RPM to prevent knocking or if it may stall or something. |

Re: Using Regular Gas?
You'll hurt the car, the Subaru is specifically designed to run on higher octane.
Not only that, but I have actually heard first hand of Subaru voiding the warranty because of people not using the correct octane gas.
