HID conversion

Hey guys, I finally ordered an HID kit and installed them yesterday. It was an Ebay kit - http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/HID-X...QQcmdZViewItem

Shipping was very fast. Would have gotten it in 2 days, but a Sunday got in the way, so it turned out to be 3 days from California to South Florida. I would have liked to see the package packed a little better, but nothing came broken or anything. Install was only about an hour and pretty straight forward.

I got the 9006 bulb size with the 6000k color temp bulb kit.

Here are some pics.

Before:

After:

The difference is just amazing when driving at night! $140 well spent IMO

Oh ya, all 2g's use the 9006 size bulb so maybe some of you guys might want to try this out. The seller says it should work in any 9006 bulb size car. I already have 2 of my local DSM buddies about to order this kit also haha.

Re: HID conversion

Your mustang uses a 9007 bulb and the ad says it will fit any car with a 9003, 9004, 9005, 9006, 9007, H1, H3, H4, H7,H8, H9, H10, H11 size bulb, so I'd guess it would work. I don't really think there is certain kits/models for this, just different bulb size/color kits.

Re: HID conversion

Nope, it was completely plug and play, no cutting or splicing or anything. The thing that took the longest was taking the damn bumper off.... you practically have to since the way the lights are situated lol.

For real?... So since I have a shit ton of extra room now and my bumper is still off, you think I should go for it? My headlights before were awesome on highs but the lows sucked... Its gonna be even worse now that I have no foglights...

Re: HID conversion

It's just the bulb that gets replaced.

Re: HID conversion

When your buddies get it in their 2g's I sure would like to see some before and after pics, along with some pics under the hood of what all it involves in a 2g... I am very interesting in possibly doing this after reading about it online... And I figure now would be the best time of any since my front clip is still apart...

If it's just the bulb that gets replaced then why does it sound like such a project?

Be carefull, some projector headlights are not made to be compatable with HID lighting. I don't know why, this is just what Ive read.

Re: HID conversion

Stock headlight housings that are the "bumpy" type are the ones that aren't not made for HIDs (they separate the light beam into millions of tiny beams going in all directions), but most aftermarket housings should be fine for HIDs. I know tuners has a shitload of threads on people doing HID conversions, and IIRC, they even have a tech article about it. I have it saved on my laptop, so when I get back on that baby, I'll post up some links and what not.

EDIT: I think this is a little different than what clipsekid did, but these are the actual real HID projector and ballast retro-fitted into a projector housing instead of just a plug 'n play system.

Re: HID conversion

Yes, headlights not designed for HIDs shouldn't use them. It will send light into driver's eyes, etc. They can put a little shroud on the bulb though, I think, to help a bit, but it's still illegal I think. I believe it was azdave on tuners that did that retrofit. He has his own website with pics, etc. He did the coolest LED taillights I've ever seen too. You have to check those out!
