Entex Mazda rotary engine 1/20 or 1/24 scale help

Hi guys,

There is a nice replica of an early Mazda (Wankel Rotary Engine) 12A engine (Rx2?) in 1/5th scale, first produced by Gakken (Kit 81588) and then Entex (Kit 8201). And later still by Minicraft (Kit 11201).

I am looking for a car kit 1/20th or 1/24th with the engine of same or simular type, (engine size- 1.5cm-2cm wide x 6cm-7cm long). I have found the cosmo Sports engine looks simular and at a reasonable scale, but i cant find the right model (in Australia) that has the motor in the kit as well.

can anyone suggest a model and make that has the motor in the dimentions I need??

I believe that the "NICHIMO MAZDA COSMO SPORT 1/20" has two motor parts. one for external display and one for internal placement.

Any info or suggestions would be appreciated.

Regards

Ozzy

Re: Entex Mazda rotary engine 1/20 or 1/24 scale help

Hello Ozzy and welcome

The entex kits are 1/20 scale. The revell mazda RX-7 has a really nice rotory
engne thats 1/24 scale. You can pick one up very cheap on e-bay.

Re: Entex Mazda rotary engine 1/20 or 1/24 scale help

ive got most mazda rotary models, just need a r100 to finish my collection off. Tamiya has a s6 kit and series 4 kit both with engines in 1/24, otherwise check out the monogram cafe racer kit. (ive made a post of my moffat replica in the completed gallery) its a great engine.
In 1/20 scale, extex make the rotors, however they arent that accuracte in scaling, but still look good in the engine bay..
Good to see a fellow rotorhead :d

Re: Entex Mazda rotary engine 1/20 or 1/24 scale help

Thanks guys for your responces,

ariel, which revel rx-7 kit has the 10A or 12A motor in it? I can not seem to find it. I have found a Mazda Savanna RX-7 TII / GT kit, 1/24th, and an Mazda Savanna RX-7 Convertible Tamiya 1/24 model kit NR
but I am not sure which engine is in these. Any idea?

rotatox, thank you also. The monogram cafe racer kit looks right on the money, but I thoguht they were hard to come by??? Searched and I can not find one. I'll keep my eye out for an r100 though.

I also found that a Nichimoco Mazda Cosmo sport kit has the 12a motor as well. But I can not find this brand. Other Cosmo models seem to not have the motor. The lack of model shops in my home town makes it difficult to source these kits also.

Thanks again for your help so far.

Regards

Ozzy

Re: Entex Mazda rotary engine 1/20 or 1/24 scale help

Look on ebay US searches the monogram kits come up often enough, not that rare.....if your only after a 12a engine they are the best bet, although with the monogram ones, the cafe racer version has a weber instead of the standard airbox....are you making a replica of your own car?

the entex rx2 kits have a detailed 12a block but they are alot rarer and sell for alot more....my monogram kit i paid $50 that was with delivery to Sydney so its alot better that the $200 minimum the rx2 kits normally go for....check my other threads. Ive posted my rx2 kit on this site....i think i have an engine shot of it too

The Monogram 1/24 RX7 is the one you want. Red car on the boxcover, it was reissued sometime in the past 10 years in the original box. Great early 12A engine w/carburetor and air cleaner. The Cafe Racer is based on this kit, but is much rarer and hard to find. It has never been reissued. I wish Revell would reissue it again, I could use some cheap/easy to find 12A's for a couple of Fujimi RX3's.

The Tamiya RX7's you mention are from the late '80's and have turbocharged 13B engines with a top-mounted intercooler that mounts under the hood scoop.

I built a 1/24 Nichimo Cosmo and don't remember it having an engine. Built it in the '80's. If they did a 1/20 it probably does have an engine (I think I've only seen one of these kits, they're pretty rare in the US). 1/20 is an odd scale to work with. As I said before the Monogram RX7 will be the easiest kit to find, but even then it will have to be via Ebay or a vintage kit seller, as it's been OOP for awhile.

Vintage 1/20 Entex/Bandai kits are all very rare and expensive. I bought most of them when new, don't have any of them anymore but the RX4 (I owned the 1:1) and a Fiat X1/9 from that series now.

Re: Entex Mazda rotary engine 1/20 or 1/24 scale help

Wow guys those builds are fantastic. And thanks for all the info.

It turns out you were correct the Nichimo cosmo sport with the engine was 1/20 scale. For some reason it has two blocks??

I will keep a look out for the RX-7, This is the one you guys are talking about I think.

If you think of any others that may be easy to find, please let me know.

I hope once I finaly get a hold of one that I can do it as much justic as you guys have done. I have spent some time going through the phot gallary, and man there is some nice work.

Tks

Ozzy

Re: Entex Mazda rotary engine 1/20 or 1/24 scale help

A bit late now, I s'pose, but The Parts Box in South Australia does a resin 1/24 scale 12A motor. Check out www.thepartsbox.com.

Cheers,
Duane
