Finished another one - Revell Gran Turismo (pics)

The box art makes the car look much cooler than it really is. The box art makes the profile look more like an AMC Javelin. Guess I should have known better from the Volkswagen engine sticking out the back.

Anyway, I don't think I've ever seen this much flash on the kit parts before. This mold needs to be retired.

Mostly out of box. I did use a bit of bare metal foil on the engine. The paint is the Krylon Color shifting paint. This stuff is really good. Goes on extremely smooth. I did polish this out though. All in all, I guess it was a fun little kit and not normally the subject I would do.

Yeah Slippery, those were my exact thoughts when I opened up the box.

I'm kind of glad this one is over with. Not that it was a horrible build, but just because I was so let down by the shape of the car. I was really expecting something a bit sportier from the box art.

Here, compare the box art to the actual model and tell me if you don't think the box art makes it look like a different car than the one I built.

Looks like if you shrunk down a 2nd gen rx7, and then put a lamborghini back on it...

i think it's just the angle that the box art picture was drawn at that makes it look sportier and longer. visual trickery. anywho, you'rs looks pretty good! IMO it would look better with some 19" slapped on it...those wheels are letting it down. and btw, you DIDN'T go with the Corvair engine??

Where can I get that paint from? I'm trying to find something like that (the paint, not the car )

I think it looks excellent. I'm guessing it's built on a VW floorpan, so it can't be all that long. Still looks cool to me though Job well done... mirror paint

I saw one of these for sale at the UK show, it was probably one of the first issues coz the box was old with slightly different artwork. It had the choice of two engines, one was VW and i can't remember the other.

Your model looks great!

If I had of done one, I would of lowered, put some 19''s on it and a real low bodykit without a spoiler :smoka:

Aint much room to put larger tires on it. I would say they are 14's on it now. A spoiler might have been cool. Lowering it might have been tough because of the VW chassis and the way the interior tub is built.

I can't really say if it was ever a real car or not. If it was, it was most likely a kit car. I'm sure this kit was originally issued in the late 60's or early 70's. Probably during the hippie period and Woodstock.

As for the paint, it's Krylon. I got it at Michaels, but have seen it at Walmart as well. It comes in a triangle shaped three pack that includes the base coat, color changing coat and clear coat. There are three different color combinations but I don't remember what they were. It runs about $14, but if you buy it at Michaels when they run a 40% or 50% off coupon, it's not such a bad deal.
