Replaced alternator now what? bad idle sensor?

On fri. the brake and charging systems lights were on until the car quit on me. Got it home, replaced alternator. Battery checks good. Now the car will crank fine, everything works, alarm, radio, windows, lights, etc. After I put in Drive and move then go to idle for stopping the car quits. No shudders, nothing just quits. When this happens the brake, charging system, and oil light comes on. It will crank right back up, and as long as I keep giving it gas runs fine. We were told the idle sensor needs to reset itself. Does anybody know anything about this?
Thanks
Mary

Re: Replaced alternator now what? bad idle sensor?

The engine computer may just need to relearn the proper idle speed.

If it keeps this up then you may have blown your ISC (Idle Speed Controller) aka ISS (Idle Speed Servo) which can also take out your ECU (Engine Computer) if you're not careful. I'd check it with a mechanic who know's Mitsu v6 engines. This may not necessarily be a Mitsubishi dealer mechanic as they are not all good.

I've stories of some dealerships replacing parts before they are actually bad only to find out it was something else entirely but you won't know that you've paid extra for the other item because they will simply imply that it was also bad. This is not always the case but unless you are aware, it can be very difficult to tell when you're being "taken for a ride".
