Steps to upgrade stock 2.2 Ecotec

Hi all Im new here and new to the ecotec engine, my previous car was a mazda rx7 so i dont know a whole lot about the normal engine etc.

Id like to give my car some pickup/acel before i work on the cosmetics of the car, in the future Id like to install a turbo, I currently have a stock 2.2 Ecotec, I'd like to know the steps i need to take to go on the path of making this car alot faster

Its a 5 spd. and has no upgrades except a CF hood & trunk and a chrome exhaust tip. I have been looking at a short throw shifter, but I am uncertain exactly how this might help anything..

One of the first things I think I'd like to do is get some new exhaust maybe 3" pipes and turn the car from single exhaust to dual and give it a little sound, the one thing stopping me is i want to make sure any upgrades i do will at some point lead to adding turbo, what exaust systems could i get that would work on my stock engine but would also work later down the road with turbo.

Als what sorts of upgrades do i need to do to the engine internally? like something bout boring out somethin and polishing the pistons or wutev. please remember when replying im new to all this and some terms i may not understand, please explain, im only trying to learn atm.

I have also been looking at this weapon R intake, is this a good intake or is it junk? and would a K&N cold air intake be better?

Also my friend has a wrx and he is able to hook his laptop to his car and use EMS software, is this possible with the Cavalier and where could i get more info on this and the prices of the cable and software etc.

Thanks for now, ill continue to post more as more questions come up.
