Project Turbo Turd AKA VW GTI

SO before any one kills me.. The name Project turd comes from my own daily beater.. I have an 85 Golf I call blue turd.. why you ask.. because its a blue pos. So I figured lets honor my turd with a nice build..

To start off the basic body will receive a big bumper kit and single round grille, shaved everything, and im thinking green paint.. Chassis will get a major lowering job with air ride possably coming into play, wheels will be 15 inch with stretch walls. Then the fun part the engine will be a heavy modded 1.8l 16v turbo.. now for some pics..

First pic the body with a fill in set of wheels.. Im using these tires with different wheels.

The big bumper and grille

then the best looking turbo money can buy.. I got this from my buddy Mike aka shucky on the tex.. He runs scale tuned you can contact him at [email protected] to gt your own killer turbo kit.. Ill let the pics do the talking now.

This will be a long term project since the engine has to be built from scratch and I have a ton of crap going on right now. Let me know what ya Think. Later Rick

Re: Project Turbo Turd AKA VW GTI

that turbo is fantastic.

i've got a soft spot for POS golfs... i had a 91 beater (in that crappy "sahara" metallic tan) that i bought for $800 and hot-rodded with junkyard parts. amazing what you can find if you hit every pick-n-pull in NorCal.

Rick, looking good my man. Its going to be a great project!

I thought I'd sign up here because of the interest I've received on the turbo's. Thanks to Rick for posting such excellent pictures! I do not want to hi-jack Rick's thread so I will make a seperate post later tonight when I get home with further details.

Be kind to Rick and no questions to me in this thread. I just wanted to give props to Rick for his outstanding Golf project.

Re: Project Turbo Turd AKA VW GTI

for the turbo

I'll be very interested in this thread, I always hesitated to buy the Scale production 'GL' transkit and now I'll see how it fits. The general idea of your project also pleases me, another wicked project I'll be happy to follow

Re: Project Turbo Turd AKA VW GTI

Hi,

you're of to a good start. I have one of those ScaleProduction transkits (I got mine from www.automobilminiaturen.de), but never got around to buy a Golf II kit to put it on. I'm looking forward to see how yours fits and am waiting for the result.

Cheers

Re: Project Turbo Turd AKA VW GTI

The scaleproductions kit is pretty nice. Casting is clean. The fit is good.. The inner sections on the sides need to be trims up a good deal to slide back over the body but other then that they fit right on. I would love to snag another kit but havent been able to find anyone who has them.
