Hey Guys,
94 GP se, 3.1 . Kids car. Go to drive the car the other day. Notice the speedometer is not working. The car won't come out of first or second gear, (not sure which). The low coolant light on the dash comes on then goes off, (mostly stays on). No SES light. Anti-freeze and oil levels are ok. Tranny fluid apears to be ok. I plan this weekend on working on it. I will try to pull any codes at this time. Do these symptoms indicate to anyone a particular part that might be bad? Where should I start checking and or troubleshooting first? Hopefully its not the internals of the tranny. As always, Your advice and direction is greatly appreciated!! |

Re: 94 GP - Tranny - where to start?
The vehicle speed sensor is the most likley culprit.

Re: 94 GP - Tranny - where to start?
I agree the vehicle speed sensor, or the wiring to it (as it runs close to the passenger side CV axle) is the no speedometer/no shift issue.
The low coolant light is probably a bad coolant level sensor in the radiator. It's in the passenger side tank, and looks like a little box about 1" or so square. They get mucked up with sludge and will turn the light on even though the coolant level is fine.

Thanks for the info guys. I will research this part first (as far as where it is at and how do you test it). I will post back and let you know how I made out.
Thanks again

Re: 94 GP - Tranny - where to start?
I believe it should be towards the passenders side on the final drive portion on the transmission. Kind of near where the CV axle goes into the trans. It is a big wire connection and i think is held in by two bolts. Might have to access it from under the car.

Re: 94 GP - Tranny - where to start?
Man, are you guys good or what! Worked on the GP today. Found the VSS on the tranny. Pulled the connector off of the sensor. One wire was cut in two.
Looked like it rub against something over time. Resoldered the wires back together and taped all up. That took care of the problem. I couldn't of done it without you guys. Thanks again. The stress is off now. I can now go drink my beer in peace
