You will need to take the air intake apart so you can see the MAF. You will need the softest bristle tooth brush you can find, throttle body cleaner and some patience. Spray the throttle beady cleaner onto the MAF and lightly brush it and it should come clean. Good luck
ps if I am misleading please correct me. Thanks

The MAF is a sensor in the tube between the air filter and the throttle body, is is a square looking cast aluminum peice, that when taken out of the tube should have an open end and a end with a honeycomb grill type of peice over it. remove the 4 screws that hold the whole assembly together and you will see behind where the honeycomb was a couple of steel rods running horizontally and then a few very thin wire peices running vertically, these are the peices that get covered in a black gunk and cause problems like hessitation, rough shifting, poor idle, poor engine running all together. Take a q-tip or roll a high quality paper towel into a small point. Now your going to use some kind of cleaner, i used paint thinner, you can use rubbing alcohol, brake clean, carb and choke cleaner, and very gently rub the gunk off the horizontal steel bars and the very thin vertical wires, be very careful, if you damage any of these peices, you will have to get a new MAF. Once you have cleaned these peices reassemble and install it back into you car and take it for a ride. Depending on how much gunk was on you MAF will determine how much better performance you will notice.
Mine was really bad, when i would leave work every day i would pull out onto the road and my blazer would just about die and then would kick in and run strong till it hit the next gear, then it would feel like it would almost die again, untill the car came up to temp a little bit. it would also shift hard when you would really accellerate, and every now and then my Service Engine Soon light would come on. But i cleaned my MAF yesterday before I left work and man, mine was filthy, i had to clean it 2-3 times before I could get nice and shiny metal bars and wires in my MAF, and then I pulled out of work! Didnt miss a tick, ran like a top, ran smooth, more powerful, smoother shifts better throttle response, it was great, and it only took about 10 mins to do , so if you have any of these problems, check you MAF, it might be worth it! |

Re: Cleaning MAF
I would recommend using brake cleaner or electronics cleaner. A lot of the carb and TB cleaners will leave a residue on the sensor, and affect performance.

Re: Cleaning MAF
the 95 blazer uses a MAP sensor which is completely different from a MAF sensor but the same products mentioned about can still be used for cleaning. BTW, this thread is almost 2 years old, please refrain from posting in old threads.
