Thumbs up 94 gmc 5.7L stalls while warming up

Hi all! My 94 gmc p/u, 5.7L autmatic trans starts fine but after running for a few minutes it will hesitate, and often stall before the engine gets up to normal operating temperature. Once i drive it a while it runs just fine. Any ideas on what could be causing this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Re: 94 gmc 5.7L stalls while warming up

This could be something as simple as a bad Engine Coolant Temp Sensor which is reporting a wrong temp back to the ECM. As the ECM adjusts fuel based on (incorrect) reported temp, it may stall.

It would be best to hook up a scan tool and watch the sensors (not just the ECT) and see if one of the sensors is bad causing the stall.

This would also tell you if there are any stored codes as well.

Re: 94 gmc 5.7L stalls while warming up

I've got a 94 gmc z71 as well. I've changed the fuel pump but it seems like a bunch of other things went wrong with it at or about the same time. Right now it will start and idle but when I put it in drive the oil pressure gauge goes to zero and it stalls out. I just changed the oil pressure sending switch and that didn't fix my problems. I thought that was the answer. any discussion would be well appreciated. I know all about dropping the fuel tank and the fuel system. i just can't find the problem.
