Angry 97 GrandCk 5.2L Exhaust Sys

I replace my oil pump, installed oil pan, but stuck trying to put the exhaust system back up.

I referred to Haynes manual which said to take off trans. mount and drop exhaust system down. But I cant get the exaust to fit into the engine compartment. Is there a trick to doing this (note. the system is still intact, just detacted from the manifold and on the ground).

Help

Re: 97 GrandCk 5.2L Exhaust Sys

Try heating the pipes with a small torch. When I put the motor in mine the exhaust did not want to line up. I used a small propane torch and leather welding gloves to get it in place. When I first fired the motor there was a small exhaust leak, I let it get warm and tightend all the bolt and the leak was gone, hope this helps.

Re: 97 GrandCk 5.2L Exhaust Sys

did you check to make sure the exhaust wasn't gettting caught on something?

When I did my oil pump, I didn't do what the book (FSM ro haynes manual) said, This is what I did it was alot easier then all the stuck the book refers to like jacking the tranny belhousing and stuff liek that.
- Place a jack under the front axle and jack it up as high as you can.
- Place jack stand under the framerails behind the lower control arm mounts and lower the jeep onto the jack stands.
make sure the wheel are off the ground (suspension fully extended) may have to remove the wheels.
- unbolt the lower shock mounts.
- unbolt and trackbar (from the frame not the axle) and unbolt the tie rod from the pitman arm.
- Drain all the oil. Unbolt the oil pan, lower it and move it forward you should be able to see the 2 oil pump bolts, unbolt the oil pump and lower it down now you should be able to remove the oil pan and pump through the front of the jeep.
