Nothing really. The 3.1 is pretty much a dog any way you look at it. You can add a free flowing aftermarket muffler like Flowmaster or something of that sort, but there isn't anything that will do ANY difference.

Not true. Im tired of telling people how much power your heads can make. 1 of my car is a 95 Lumina 3.1. I ported and polished my own heads. I balanced the rockers, valve springs, and valves. I put in some new valve seals.

You can also have the crankshaft turned and polished( I didnt ). I put new bearing on the crankshaft and piston rods. New piston rings. New cam shaft AND BEARINGS. Exaust manifold upgrade. New o2 sensors. Cut off the catilytic converter and put a straight pipe in its place. 3 chamber Flowmasters and dont forget the pcm upgrade.

Thers no end to this list. It wasnt what I planned when I pulled the motor. Originally I was gonna do the oil pan gasket and paint some engine parts and polish others. Click on my link at the bottom and you'll see my Lumina im working on. I out ran my boys newer mustang 3.8 with ease.

Re: more power for my 91

I agree. And if you want to add pep without major bucks and labor, here's some of what i've done with my 90 3.1. I put in the autolite dual electrode plugs. Always was relucant to but glad I did. About 6 bucks each but I could tell the difference. Cone air filter for improved air flow and looks good. Theres a few sites on e-bay sells them. Mine was less than 30 bucks delivered. I also installed a chip for about 30 bucks. I did'nt get or expect the 25HP advertised more like 10-15 so it was worth it. Dual exhaust helps engine breathe better but I did that more for looks and sound. Havent Dynoed car but I think I got that 135hp up to maybe 155-160HP along with improved MPG. Not bad and you have to keep it in perspective, were talking FWD here. Those CV joints dont care much for burnouts, good topend is where it's at.

Re: more power for my 91

by 'chip' they mean...

once u start tampering with the engine like that you need a non-stock chip that has new tables for telling the ecm how to manage everything

cutting the cat off throws the second O2 sensor reading off (if it wasnt cut out too) basically you need a chip to tell the ECM not to take in account an oxygen sensor reading in its calculations... not to mention porting and otherwise allowing the engine to breathe better is probably going to mess up some calculations somewhere and you wont get the full performance from your engine compared to a custom chip

Re: more power for my 91

Sorry K for life it's a performance chip I purchased. It's basically a resistor you wire in with your air intake sensor. It fools the sensor and allows better air fuel mix. There are computer eprom performance chips that replace the one in your ECM but their pretty expensive. To me they were'nt worth the expense. Also on your idea about cutting out that cat, you wont pass annual inspection if you require one... a legit one anyway.

Re: more power for my 91

I found bith items on E-Bay stores. you can do a search in auto accessories for performance chips and air filter. There's a few E-Bay on-line stores that sell these products at similiar prices. the module was snowmanzz,i lost reciept for cone filter but it was a K&N. Enter your vehicle info to access products made for your ride faster.
