Thinkin I got a boost leak.

Anyways before I go to the trouble of making a boost leak tester...which I'll probably do anyway, I just want your guys input. Anyways sometimes when I take off...I don't have to give it alot of gas....but it will cruise fine then out of freakin nowhere it will start jumping...kinda like if a boost pipe fell off...which makes me think its a boost leak. It does the same thing sometimes when I'm cruising and give it the gas. It only does this for a few seconds then straightens out. The check engine light also comes on for like 5 seconds....not long enough for me to check it. Also when its idling it doesnt hold a constant idle...it moves up and down by like 100 rpm veriations. Also when I'm parked and rev it to any given rpm, lets just say 2000....it wont hold at 2000rpms....it jumps up and down some like lets say 1950-2100 or so...just wont stay at 2000. I'm still new to this turbo crap, so any help will be appreciated greatly. Thanks again.

Re: Thinkin I got a boost leak.

That idle seems fine to me. Mine always in that range. Goes from 750 - 950 at idle. It's work trying out to test it all out and see where leaks are. But I personally think the idle is fine.

Re: Thinkin I got a boost leak.

I dont know if it would be a boost leak if the problem just kind of goes away...I would probably get worse with the higher boost that you are getting...but its not a bad idea to make a tester...it definitely makes it easier to find.

Re: Thinkin I got a boost leak.

Although the ECU may turn the CEL off, it will still retain the DTC until it looses power. I would try and pull the code.

Re: Thinkin I got a boost leak.

I tried that but it said that there are no stored codes.

Re: Thinkin I got a boost leak.

Most of the time if you have a boost leak, it makes a noise, like a paper bag or a crinkling noise sort of.. I think I have one at the moment, but I'm going to use a tester to see.. I have a 1g so my lines and hoses are pretty old and need to be replaced ASAP anyhow.

And your idle is fine.. typical usually.. I have a rough idle at time, but it's a DSM..
