That was rotten. I was thinking that thread was going to be about the guy just wrecked his ride...

That's really sad. I couldn't even imagine going through that.

That's an awful lot for the family to deal with, most of all the son.

I followed a chain of links in that thread, and ended up here.

Very, very sad. A 20-yr old mother and her child are killed, though wearing seatbelts and not speeding, because some fool left a cardboard box in the road.

A few weeks ago this sort of thing happened to a friend of mine, luckily no-one else was in the car. The woman who was driving the wrong side of the road to overtake another car around a bend was only given 3 points on her liscense and a £300 fine for bad driving. that is not justice.

I saw that story the other night. How sad. Gosh, I mean, I'm that age. Just reminds us how mortal we all are...

My condolences to his family and friends.

edit: That's that forum's second lost in as many days, I think. Just 2 nights ago my friend sent me a story of a kid in Canada (Ontario I think) who was only 18 and who died in his RX7. that's what link I thought it was...

Has anyone else noticed that this late summer/fall as been especially fatal for friends and family?? Maybe it's just that I am getting older. If that's all it is, than getting older sucks.

i think its the times and the trasition of driving these days. I mean think back 5-10 years and look at the cars of the late 80's early 90's..they had like 3/4 the horsepower and the speed and the handling that the cars do today. And know there are kids who are just starting to drive that want to and CAN go fast if they desire. I mean IM 15 and i dont have my liscense yet ...and i know the feeling of when my dad lets me drive and i get to go 50-55 on an abandoned road and that feels fast... and reckless kids that are going 100-120 on the highway..thats dangerous. And know we are in the times when even the FAMILY cars like the Nissan Altima/Maxima for example have a boosted horsepower..and yes that can be a good thing...but not when your gonna be reckless with it. And just think back a year...the fastest car went...200-205...know we have the Ferrari Enzo coming out that can go 220...i know not alot of ppl will have access to these cars..but I would trust someone with a car capable of 220 that drives safely against someoen with a car that can go 100 tops that drives like a chicken with its head cut off...

so just remember...drive safe..drive smart..too many ppl die for no reason and because of silly things like cardboard boxes in the way...so the next time your going 110 on the highway in traffic and just remember ..a carboard box in the road ..you swerve..your car flips in the median..you die...be aware

Thats why its cardboard, to go through it! But seriously, SilverLotus has a point. I believe the next generation of cars should have a low top end speed, and high acceleration, because thats what gives the thrill. Better handling needs to be developed (what, even better than a lotus?) so that some stupid accidents can be avoided.

i agree...but alot of times...if your driving and you see a box in the road..you dont usually run it over..unless your in a truck...think about it jsb if ur in the Esprit and you see a big ass box in the road are you gonna run it over? if u do im gonna hurt you j/k

but high end speeds arent always bad and i dont mean to sound like a hipocrit..you can drive @ 1000000 miles an hour and i wouldnt care..but just do it safely

Yeah, but how do you know there isn't a washing machine in it? I'm sure she didn't think she'd lose control...maybe we could say, remember to call the Highway Patrol or the city police about hazardous objects in the road. That is what you're supposed to do. That way the next person to come by won't run over it or kill themselves avoiding it.

the last thing I saw in the road was a tree, so I had to throw it to the side (hard work!). I have actually hit a cardboard box before, but in an XJS. But there was luckily nothing in it. It was orund the corner, so I just removed it.

good point...very good point...i dont mean to sound like mr. know it all or goody tooshoes..but there was this guy around here that owned an Sl500 and he was driving down 81 and there was a big box in the way..and it was either the box or a tractor trailer the was next to him..he decided hitting the box was better and dealing with those consequences than hitting the truck and putting 2 people in danger..well he hit the box..and inside was a brand new refridgerator..he spun out..missing the truck..but ripping off the front bumber..crushing the hood and cracking the windshield..but hes alive today to tell the story
