Wierd Metallic Popping Noise

So I've got a 96 Cavalier with the 2.2 in it. Ever since I got it about 5 months ago, I have noticed this metallic popping noise when I stop.

It doesn't actually do it when the car stops, but a few seconds after. It sounds like it might be from the engine or the fuel tank, but I can't narrow it down past that.

The closest I can come to describing it is if you had an empty 2 liter bottle made out of metal and squeezed it in half, then blew in it to pop it back to it's normal shape.

Any help would be great.

Re: Wierd Metallic Popping Noise

I have a weird popping noise coming from my 94 2.2 L4.. I don't think it is from the engine though.... you said it happens right after you stop right? When I push the brake pedal, I can hear my brake shoes hitting the drum and making a loud metallic "ping" noise everytime I hit the brakes. It might be the parking brake cable not releasing 100%, or it might be sticking.
