front driveshaft?

hi everyone! my friend has a 97 ford explorer v6 4wd. There's a noise coming from under the vehicle by the transfer case! it's like a clicking and like if something is rubbing, almost like when the brakes are gone! I checked under the truck and there's a cv driveshaft where it connects to the transfer case. No wonder it sounds like a bad cv axle. I went under the car and told my friend to put it in drive and go slow. I reached the driveshaft and felt the clicking noise and in fact it was where the cv joint is! I hope you can understand wat im saying! well, I need to know if this cv axle can b fixed or does it have to be replaced? if replaced how hard to do for a mechanically inclined person? Thanks for any feedback!

Re: front driveshaft?

I'm in the same boat on this one with my 98 explorer. The cv joint can be replaced the part cost about 60-70 dollars with a wide variance in core charges depending on the parts store anywhere from $5-$90. I'm looking at doing this later this week, after I just replaced both bearing hub assemblies yesterday. I just love tearing apart stuff I just replaced to replace the real problem behind it. by the way if you have to replace the bearing hub assemblies at any time look on ebay you can get both for less than you can buy one at your local parts store. Well I hope that helped. Now I got to go find some minor details on my repair. Have a great day.
