93/SSEI timing chain

I have a question on the timing chain.
If #1 cylinder is tdc on the compression stroke, what is the location of the magnet in the timing gear? (Should it be in the center of the opening for the cam shaft sensor?).
Mine is at the top of the opening. Could this mean that my timing chain has jumped?
Would my computer detect this?
