Brand new ignition coil not working.

My 92 Bonneville started driving funny.. didn't have as much power and was chugging pretty loudly. Couldn't accelerate past 20mph going uphill. This had happened before and it turned out to be a bad ignition coil.. replaced the coil and all was well again. I checked to see if one of the coils was not sparking when I took the wires off and started the car, sure enough one of them wasn't. I bought a brand new ignition coil and put it on there, and it's still not working. Could it be something to do with the wiring that goes to that coil rather then the coil itself, because a brand new coil should definitely be working and its not.

Re: Brand new ignition coil not working.

Sounds like you have it narrowed down to a spark plug wire or the ignition control module.

Is there any way to narrow it down further, aside from buying new wires and seeing if that fixes it?

Swap that cable with one you know is good already on the car. Ensure that you swap it on both the spark plug AND the coil-pack ends to prevent misfires.

Re: Brand new ignition coil not working.

It turned out to be the coil module. $200.. just popped it on and problem solved. I got lucky that day too. I thought my brake calipers needed replaced, so I went and bought all new ones, plus new brake shoes, totaling around $200 for all. Once I got the wheel off and took a look around, I noticed a crack in one of the brake lines, so I bought a $20 hose, put it on there and it was fixed. Good thing the parts store takes returns
