'98 GC AWD - Disconnected hose? ** With Pics **

I was checking out my wife's GC last night, and I came across a hose that's not connected to anything. It's a 1998 Grand Caravan AWD with a 3.8. My neighbor has a 2000 Grand Caravan with a 3.3. I looked at his engine, and he has a cap where my hose is connected, so I'm wondering if this has something to do with the AWD system?

Here's some pictures...

The first picture is, obviously, the hose. The second picture is a shot of the end that is connected to the port on the fourth picture that has nothing on it. On my friend's 2K 3.3L, that port has a rubber cap on it.

The third pic is the end that simply hangs down back by the driver's side shock tower. I have no idea what this is.

While the engine is idle, if I cover the port, the rpms go down considerable, almost to the point of stalling, then it recovers and idles again - albeit a bit slower. It also seems as though with the port covered, that revving the engine results in the RPMs returning to normal a bit more slowly than if my finger weren't over the hole.

Any ideas?

Re: '98 GC AWD - Disconnected hose?

Md,

I have the same vehicle, I think the hose leads to the evap cannister in the fuel system. I'll have a look at mine when I get home tonight and let you know where it leads but it looks familiar.

Re: '98 GC AWD - Disconnected hose?

Md,

Sorry for the delay. The hose is part of the Evap system. It goes indernreath part of the intake manifold and connects to another hose on the passengers side inner fender which goes to the evap cannister under the van.

On the inner fender next to the power steering reservoir you will see a sticker with diagram of the routing. Mine was covered in grime so you may hve to give it a clean.

Hope this helps.
