98 GMC TPI 5.7-350- 1500 series TPS or IAC problem.

When I start my truck sometimes the engine will rev up to about 800 to 1200 rpm and will settle back down to around 500 rpm pretty quick few seconds, also when I put it into drive it will rev up some but once it's started and warmed up all is normal, could this be either the TPS or the IAC? I have replaced both of these within the past couple years. I bought them both at autozone but they only gave me a 3 month warranty so warranting them is out of the question now, do these things go bad that soon? or could there possible be some other problem? I hate to be a parts changer.

I would unplug the IAC and see if the problem goes away. With the IAC unpluged, the PCM will not be able to change the idle speed. If it still does it with the IAC disconnected, it could be TPS or even a vacuum leak. Getting it hooked upto a scan tool will help determine the fault.
