Talking 1991 P-A Sporadic No-Crank

Hey all,

I have a 1991 Buick Park Avenue, recently went through a computer changeover at a Buick dealership. Since then, I've had some strange electrical gremlins popping up, to include random problems with the anti-theft system, the light monitor freaking out, and now, a random problem that is locking out the starter. It will go without having any issues for the longest time, then suddenly I can put the keys in the ignition, everything powers up, but the starter won't turn. I can cross the starter at the solenoid, and the car will start, but only momentarily. How do I solve this issue? Help Please!

Sounds like a theft deterent problem. Toward the top of the Buick page there is a link that says," search this forum", you can type in theft system, there is some info there. Because your problems seem to be intermittent, it may be hard to track.

If you have more than one ignition key, you might try the other key, see if it helps. You might try cleaning the pellet in the key. If the problem is in the pellet--lock cylinder--wiring to the lock cylinder, there is a bypass procedure that may work. If the problem is in the theft module, that procedure won't work.

There is info all over the internet about bypassing that circuit, I don't have it, right in front of me, do a web search.

Thanks guys. You saved my life, this car is my only form of transport that is running at the moment, and it kinda scared me that it suddenly didn't want to start.
