1992 chevy 1500 fuel vapor canister leaking

hi , i have a 1992 v-8 truck .the vapor canister is leaking and the truck would not run. i disconneted it and it runs fine. is there a check valve in the lines or does the canister need replaced.
any help would be appreciated thank you.

I have the factory manuals for 1990. It says to replace the canister if it is cracked or leaking.
