STUPID FIX IT TICKET! I need your opinions.
I got pulled over tonight, and the cop gave me a fix it ticket for my exhaust. It IS pretty loud. Header, hollowed out cat, 2.5 inch straight pipe to a straight through muffler. He was pretty cool, but apparently where I live, it's illegal to have any modified exhaust whatsoever, for civil purposes. I don't want to take it to Midas and have them put a stock muffler on it for $100-200. What I think I am going to do is this: go to autozone or advance auto or hell, even meijer or wal-mart and buy a universal muffler and some muffler clamps, and sawz-all my old one off, and put the new one on. It should be significantly quieter, yet still have a low, quiet "stock rumble" sound, or so I think, unless I'm gonna need a resonator or two. The cop said if I bring it back to him, and its significantly quieter, but still a "modified exhaust," he will still sign the ticket for me. Does this sound like a decent plan? Should this solution quiet it down enough? I am kind of a verrrry slim budget right now. I only have about $50 to my name till next paycheck.
Infact, thats all I would really want. Im almost 18, and I've been dealing with this loud shit for 2 years, it's starting to get really old, and in my opinion, somewhhat childish and embarrassing especially with a chick in the car. So should this setup be ok, speaking in terms of noise?

the company that makes cherry bombs have a "premium muffler" which has a stock look, and is quiet, but still will give you a good, clean sound when you get the revs up...plus they are like 30 bucks...something to look into. I wouldn't worry about resonators either, a quieter muffler will do the trick, and will be much easier for you to do yourself without tearing the entire exhast apart

Just have a resonator welded in after the cat and it should solve your problems. If it is still too loud after that have a flowmaster muffler put on at the end of your set up and it should still flow good and be substantially quieter.

Why don't you just use the stock exhaust/muffler for a few months til you can save up for something nice/quiet and permanent...like you said you're broke.
or Use the stock exhaust, get your ticket signed off then put the loud exhaust back til you save up for a replacement.

Re: STUPID FIX IT TICKET! I need your opinions.
actually its illegal every were apperantly to modify your exhaust with anything other then a "stock oem exhaust" i used a flowtech raptor muffler and it sounds decent but its pretty quite. but i do recommend what turtle said about having a resonator welded it. it cleans up the sound.
