GTR # 27R for sale or is it?

The January edition of Classic & Sports Car contains a full page advert from Cars International Limited with a half page picture of "1997 MCLAREN F1 GTR # 27R" and also 3 smaller pictures (Mercedes-Benz 500K, Ferrari 288 GTO and a Bugatti Type 55), the advert concludes with "For additional information on the above selection, please visit our web site" , on visiting the web site and checking the stock list all cars pictured appear with the exception of the Mclaren so has it appeared in the advert purely to capture peoples attention or is it for sale if a genuine enquiry is made?

Sorry for not being able to scan the advert which would probably have made what I am talking about clearer.

Everything is for sale for a price, but I would bet with using it at the top of the advertisement was simply meant to draw some attention to the ad. At least that is how it appears to me.

Re: GTR # 27R for sale or is it?

I had thought it might be an attention grabber hence my "for sale or is it?" title but if that was the case there would be no need to put the chassis number in the advert as it is of no relevance unless the actual car in question is for sale or at least that is how I read things!

I saw 27R at the Autosport International Show yesterday (8/1/09) @ NEC, Birmingham, UK on the Cars International stand with a FOR SALE sign on the windscreen.
In conversation with the proprietor, he confirmed that the car had been on their books for the last ten years and was for sale with an asking price of a cool £1,000,000 !
He seemed confident that showing it at Autosport International would elicit a prompt sale !
Hope this information clarifies the car's status ?

at £1,000,000 i cant see it hanging about for very long, even if it is going to cost 300-400k to get it converted to road spec if you are going to go down that route, be intresting to see how much DK Engineerings F1 is going for.

Re: GTR # 27R for sale or is it?

I am surprised that some people seem to think that the 1 million pounds price will result in 27R selling quickly, long tails GTR's are not the easiest of cars to sell and that is before you factor in the current market, just look how long 19R and 24R were up for sale and that was before we had a recession. The right car will always sell but I doubt 27R falls into that category.

Re: GTR # 27R for sale or is it?

Wasn't that the same price McLaren were (supposedly??) asking for the Prototype Long Tail GT - 56XPGT?
IMO the GTR Long Tail isn't a patch on the Long Tail Roadcar GT. Anyone know how much the original 3 roadcar GTs shipped for?

Yes, but that was quite a few years ago and selling prices for all F1s have moved significantly higher in that period of time.

I'm not aware of the price for the GTs. Don't ever recall seeing a figure for those. Wouldn't be shocked if it was in line with the price of the LMs which was reported as £800,000 (or $1.25M USD) in 1996.

Re: GTR # 27R for sale or is it?

I see the reason you find it funny, but I believe we have discussed this before here or elsewhere, and because of the position of the shift lever in relation to the position of the driver, it would generally be considered a LHD setup - ignoring the actual position of the driver being in the center of course.

That being said - how would you classify the Jaguar XJR-15 - driver on the right, shifter to his right just like in a LHD setup?
